PROFESSIONAL FILM TRANSFER EQUIPMENT:
The Cine-TranzPRO has been developed in response to requests from commercial film transfer companies requirements for a system capable of producing professional level results. We originally entered the market with the standard Cine-Tranz system that was specifically targeted towards the domestic home market, allowing people the opportunity to perform their own film conversions. While performing very well and being distributed worldwide, this system did not meet the demanding specifications required by the commercial sector.
The Cine-TranzPRO now offers a level of quality normally only achievable using frame scanner equipment. The use of a large 200mm condenser lens in conjunction with an optical quality front surface mirror can now focus almost any good quality digital camera directly onto the tiny 8mm or 16mm film as it is being projected. Our system includes a modified projector which is specially calibrated to work with the precision optical components, providing images so clear that the grain of the film emulsion comes into focus.
Also available is the standard Cine-Tranz transfer system for just $192.00. While not delivering the image transfer quality of the PRO unit, this is still an excellent way to transfer just a small collection of films at an affordable price. HOW IT ALL WORKS:
The heart of the Cine-TranzPRO is the assembly that includes a 200mm condenser lens and front surface mirror. This optical arrangement effectively allows the camera to focus directly onto the film as it is being projected, providing an extremely clear transfer of the film. Because the camera will be pointing directly into the projector lens through the magnification of the condenser lens the projector light source needs to be modified.
These modifications include the removal of the high wattage lamp which has been replaced with a low wattage LED cluster lamp. The heat shield has also been removed and replaced with a white diffuser for even distribution of light. Heat damage is no longer an issue with the new lighting system.
The lens system has a very precise focal length so alignment of all the components in the chain need to be calibrated correctly for optimum performance. Alignment of these components is performed in our workshop with all items fitted to a base board to maintain the correct optical geometry. This system can be used under normal room lighting conditions as long as no strong source of direct light falls onto the mirror or condenser lens.

PROJECTION EQUIPMENT:
Most projector manufacturers stopped making their equipment in the late 1980's when VHS-C video and Hi8 Video entered the domestic market. For this reason we need to use second hand projectors that have been chosen for their suitability to perform film transfer work. All machines have variable speed control to allow removal of the flicker associated with conflict in frame rates between the projected film speed and the camera capture speed. Each projector is fully inspected and serviced to ensure years if trouble free operation. The entire assembly is constructed in two parts to allow the interchange of projectors should the need arise. Most 8mm film was originally shot without sound and our base system comes with a dual format projector capable of running both super 8mm and standard 8mm film.
The system can however be adapted to attach a projector with sound capabilities or a 16mm machine, making this assembly an extremely valuable and versatile addition to any commercial transfer studio that offers multiple format transfers for their clients.
We have designed circuitry that has been installed in our fixed speed sound projectors giving them fully variable speed control from 5 through to about 30 frames per second. Our circuitry can also be installed in most 16mm machines that traditionally only came with one or two fixed speeds.
The projectors chosen for the Cine-TranzPRO are selected with multiple voltage selection for 110v used in the USA through to 240v commonly used in most other countries.
CAMERA EQUIPMENT:
The Cine-TranzPRO system comes without a camera or capture device. This is because all transfer studios have their own preferences for camera choice with most professional cameras costing many thousands of dollars. Due to the level of quality available with the Cine-TranzPRO, it is recommended that a good broadcast quality camera is used, to take full advantage of the extraordinary clarity that can be extracted from the film through the use of the condenser lens.
The camera should have manual overrides for: focus, aperture, white balance with a selection of ND filter settings to control difficult film lighting conditions. The minimum zoom capacity of the camera should be no less that 10 X due to the focal requirements of the condenser lens. Due to the focal length of the lenses, the camera must be mounted some 700mm to 900mm from the front of the assembly for optimum performance.
DOCUMENTATION :
A comprehensive DVD tutorial is included with printed documentation covering all the information necessary to get up and running quickly. For ease of shipping, the assembly will be flat-packed before dispatch with final reassembly requiring only a screwdriver and minimal technical knowledge.
16mm PROJECTORS :
Our systems are custom built to suit your application. 16mm projectors can be adapted to work with the Cine-TranzPRO. The only modifications will be to the lighting circuit and the inclusion of a diffuser for further reduction in illumination. Some but not all projectors can have the variable speed controls installed with stock availability being the determining factor.
8mm SOUND PROJECTORS :
The majority of sound projectors on the second hand market come with two fixed speeds, 18 and 24fps. For film transfer work this limitation of speed control precludes their use for commercial sound film transfer. All sound projectors shipped with the Cine-TranzPRO system have the included circuitry allowing fully variable adjustment of projection speed to completely eliminate flicker caused by conflicting frame rates. There are numerous brands of projectors used for this application with each system being custom built from machines available at the time. The above image shows the speed control knob on the rear of the projector.
The small adjustment in projection speed required to eliminate flicker has very little effect on audio tone and the sound track is recorded in real time directly to your camera. Any adjustment to the final sound on a transferred film can be made using the appropriate computer software, post production.
Cine-Tranz DOLLY Linear Video Camera Tracking System
The track and linear bearing plate are fixed together, eliminating the chance of expensive camera equipment being knocked off the track. The track and bearings system is designed to support camera rigs up to 40kg while still maintaining a smooth effortless linear movement.
The camera, tripod and ball head mount is not included with the Cine-Tranz DOLLY system
A substantial aluminium center support with a 3/8” threaded socket will allow the Cine-Tranz DOLLY to be mounted onto a standard tripod base. Also included is a ¼” step-down ferrule for smaller tripod mountings.
Care should be taken when choosing and connecting the tripods to ensure that it will support the combined weight of the track and camera system. Should the tripod be unstable then outer supports should be attached to eliminate any danger of the camera weight overbalancing the system when fully extended on the track.
NOTE:
Our system is not mass produced but hand built in small quantities in our workshop to maintain individual quality. The channel and support feet are manufactured from new non-anodized aluminium with some machine and set-out marks still being present on the channel and camera mounting plates. Even though some marks may be present the track is in un-used condition except for testing purposes prior to shipping.
We use a precision machined track and linear sheave block runner specially imported for high quality smooth bump free tracking along the entire length of the track. Upon request we can provide longer tracks up to 2 meters in length for special tracking requirements.
