EXAMPLES OF FILM TO DVD CONVERSIONS:

There are many film transfer service providers offering a multitude of different transfer methods. Most are using professional level equipment to achieve a high quality conversion of your films, however some are not offering the best possible reproduction due to poor technique or use of non professional equipment.

Perhaps the best way to make an assessment of our film transfer quality is to view sample movie clips. Many transfer service providers don't show samples of their work because their quality may not be up to professional standards. We are very proud of our craft and invite you to make your own assessment. Our Technical Info page shows a comparison with frame by frame scanning techniques to demonstrate slight differences in transfer results.

The above example clip is from 50 year-old standard 8mm films that has been transferred using the Cine-TranzPRO transfer system and Broadcast quality Panasonic 3CCD camera. This project was captured in 16:9 ratio resulting in some image cropping, top and bottom. Most captures are performed in 4:3 ratio which is the original film aspect ratio retaining the full size image.

Our system projects and captures the original film colour's in far greater detail and clarity than most traditional projection techniques. Keep in mind that the condition of film will continue to deteriorate with age unless they have been well cared for in a reasonably well controlled environment. Australian conditions with high humidity and heat have a detrimental effect on the emulsion causing changes in the dyes that make up the image.

Much of the film we receive shows signs of chemical changes resulting in a colour shift to purple or blue. This can also be attributed to the use of poor quality film stock, incorrect aperture settings or very low light shooting conditions. Depending upon the condition of your films the final transfer quality may differ from our examples. As the years go by the quality of your original film will continue to diminish so it is important to have them transferred before too much image information is lost.

The next film example is a real treasure and it is unknown who the people are in the film. The date 1925 was written on the canister so it is quite remarkable that after 87 years this wonderful footage was found.

This 1925 16mm film was found under the seat of an old derelict truck in country Queensland.

The film was twisted, buckled and very brittle so we had just one chance to convert it before it started disintegrating.

Lost for over 87 years these amazing images should not be allowed to simply disappear through neglect.

Make sure your film is not forgotten and lost for nearly a century like this one.

16mm FILM
Although not as popular for home movies because of cost, 16mm film had the advantage of delivering superb image quality when captured correctly. This example of 16mm film exhibits great composition and understanding of how to use a movie camera. Colour's are bright, the camera is steady for a hand held capture and the photographer used available bright sunlight to its best advantage.

DAMAGED FILM
Home 8mm movies can suffer from many problems. The most common being poor camera technique with the camera being 'fire hosed" which is a term used when the camera operator waved the camera from side to side in an effort to capture everything within a 180 deg arch. Other problems include poor focusing and incorrect aperture setting resulting in over or under exposed film. This film exhibits moisture damage causing the dyes to dissolve ruining the image.
