Most families have comprehensive visual records of their immediate family in the form of 35mm slides, photos, 8mm movie film, video and even digital photographs. Most of this valuable, irreplaceable imagery is locked away in albums, boxes or distributed amongst other family members, never seeing the light of day and slowly deteriorating as the years go by. All forms of visual media can be combined to produce a timeline story to convey a movie pictorial of special family events or an individual’s life history. A completed movie makes an ideal gift for special family occasions or simply as a collection of family memories and history. Depending on the nature of the projects, it can include recent video narration from elderly family members who can still remember the people, places and dates of old photos and silent film. We can also offer interviews with family members to record their recollection of events to be included in the project. Unfortunately our culture has lost the age old tradition of story telling where by legends and family history were passed down through the generations. Technology has become our way of passing on this knowledge and history to younger family members and hopefully to generations yet to come. Many of us have already lost family members along with their wealth of knowledge and rich memories of our past. We should utilise technology in ways that can help enrich others with the wisdom and experiences of our lives before we too pass on.
